DescriptionThis is our final "test" for out Spanish class for freshman year. This is a big part of a grade where we had to have an unscripted conversation with a peer. We had to talk specifically about anything related to this upcoming 2016 election.

Video and TranscriptVideo:
While the video is here, there seems to be no audio for some reason. Instead of writing a transcript, I will just explain what I talked about with my partner for my final:
We asked each other how we were doing and both agreed we were tired. We then asked each other if we have any opinions on the election and asked why that was a no for us both. Our answers were something along the lines of the fact that our families don't how my sister voted and my mom cant vote because she is an immigrant. That is all we talked about. |
Artist StatementThe greatest tool I've used to enhance my Spanish vocabulary is Duolingo. In the Beginning Duolingo helped me a lot. I haven't done much to motivate my partner but I will try to do so for the rest of this project. I think its important that we get in as much practice as possible. My goal before each conversation is to not break out into English, have little to no pauses, and to have a regular day to day conversation that I would normally have. On a scale of 1-10 I would say my comfort level with having a Spanish conversation with a fluent speaker would be a 2. I say this knowing how vast every language is. There are things (like conjugations in the Spanish language) that differentiate each language. They can make it so hard to pick up on for some. I would like to discuss the culinary arts more since that is what I am going into after high school. Quite honestly, I chose my partner mainly because she is my friend but also because we did a good Spanish conversation when we were last partners. I watched one episode of Peppa the Pig in Spanish..ha ha..embarrassing..oh well either way, I would say it was of almost no help to me. Other than this, I have never listened to music or anything else in Spanish. To study, I usually go over my notes, go on Duolingo every other day, or Facetime with my friend Elly to practice with her. Near the end of the year when we were reading articles in class, it gave me that realization that a lot of words in Spanish are close to words in English and that you cannot directly translate sentences from one language to another it still making sense and meaning the same thing.
